On Saturday 19 May, my friend Rachel is going to be an Olympic torch bearer in Plymouth, accompanied by her wonderful guide dog.
She was first put forward to do this because of the large amount of volunteering that she does at university. I am very proud of her for being a torch bearer, because it is good that she has been recognised for all the hard work she has put into her volunteering over the past three years. She always enjoys helping people, so it is fantastic that she has been awarded for supporting the local community. Also, it is good to know someone who is a torch bearer because it has made me more interested in the Olympics.
Rachel has had to do lots of media interviews leading up to the torch relay. This has included much coverage in local and national newspapers, and appearances on radio and television. I have heard some of these interviews, and thought she did them very well, as some of the questions were quite tricky. Part of the media coverage involved her spending a day in London at the Capital FM studios, where she met such pop stars as Eliza Doolittle and The Wanted.
As her friend, I am delighted Rachel is going to be a torch bearer, and wish her the best of luck for it. So let's all cheer her on, on 19 May!
