Individually-tailored services
RNIB Pears Centre for Specialist Learning (formerly known as RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home) offers a place for young people with complex needs who are blind or partially sighted a place to live, learn and grow.
Building on over fifty years of expert care and education, RNIB Pears Centre offers a stimulating and supportive environment for young people to reach their full potential for learning, independence and fulfilment.
Each young person's goals for their development and wellbeing are tailored to meet their unique set of needs, interests and abilities.
Specialist education
Our broad, balanced and relevant curriculum is differentiated to meet individual needs and learning styles. We are a member of NASS and in September 2010 become a specialist school for SEN: cognition and learning. The school at RNIB Pears Centre has recently been graded Outstanding by Ofsted.
Care
We offer up to 52-week specialised residential care from new purpose-built bungalows with gardens and outdoor play areas. Young people are actively encouraged to make their own everyday choices and develop independence skills. The Children's Home at RNIB Pears Centre has recently retained its Ofsted Outstanding rating.
Parents, carers and families are actively involved at each step of a young person's journey.
Social and leisure opportunities
Young people have access to many social and leisure activities which enhance their self-esteem and sense of identity. We offer opportunities to go on holidays and to enjoy new challenges and experiences.
Therapies and healthcare
We have an on-site team of specialist learning disability nurses, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists. Young people also have access to water therapy, music therapy, clinical psychology, habilitation and occupational therapy services.
Consistent approach
Our team ensures that all aspects of a child's education, care and health needs are met. We all work together so that each young person receives the same standard of support.
Experienced staff
We offer specialist expertise for supporting young people who are blind or partially sighted with complex needs in the areas of care, education, healthcare and therapies.
Our teachers are all Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (QTVIs), or are working towards this qualification. All RNIB Pears Centre staff and volunteers are required to undertake regular training in safeguarding children and young people.
Central location
Located in a pleasant residential area in Coventry, North Warwickshire with excellent transport links (near M6, M1, M42 and M69 motorways), RNIB Pears Centre is easily accessible from many areas of the UK.
