Blind and partially sighted children may not be able to learn daily skills from watching other people. They may also have to learn to use adapted equipment for some daily tasks, for instance talking kitchen scales for cooking.
How schools can help
This learning can be reinforced at school and needs to be discussed as part of an IEP (Individual Education Plan). Parents can seek advice from their local specialist teaching service to ensure that what children are taught at school is reinforced at home and vice versa.
In addition, Mobility Officers are an invaluable source of information and may offer support and advice at home.
