Our Children's Home
An outstanding home
When Ofsted visited Sunshine House Children's Home in December 2011 they judged us to be an outstanding home.
Highlights from the report
"Young people are thriving in this focused and well-managed service."
"The relationships between staff and young people are remarkable. Staff speak with young people and not at them, using body language, cues and gestures in supporting meaningful conversations. Young people respond positively to this and are genuinely relaxed and 'at home' for the duration of their stay."
"Young people are making strides and enjoying the benefits of an environment which is equipped with sensory integrated facilities, tactile stimulus and adapted equipment. The expressions on young people's faces show how happy they are among staff and the fun they gain from the varying activities they do. The holistic and diverse services provided to young people and their families are exceptional."
"Young people's needs are central to all aspects of the service. This is reflected in the environement, planning, staff learning and development and meeting young people's diverse needs. Young people's abilities to make choices is not underestimated. Staff are patient and gentle in helping young people to respond in ways and at a pace suitable to their levels of understanding."
"One parent summarised by saying 'Staff gave us back a young man full of life and confidence, and an extremely happy, well-balanced individual."
