Adapting classroom practice to personalise learning for pupils with severe learning difficulties including austism

This session will look at how some schools have adapted the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils in their settings. It will include how to dovetail different therapy programmes and interventions into classroom settings in order to maximise inclusion. Time will also be spent looking at groups of pupils with severe learning difficulties and ASD looking at how regular classroom activities can be presented to these groups in a way to ensure learning takes place.

Who should attend?

Teachers, teaching assistants in both main stream and special school settings, SENCOS, HT, senior teachers, therapists, portage workers and others who support pupils with severe learning difficulties.

Learning objectives

  • To look at curriculum structures across differnt schools
  • To explore integrating a range of therapy programmes or other interventions into classroom practice
  • To look at specific ways of presenting learning activities to pupils with SLD, ASD etc.
