Library closures and cutbacks are a serious threat in many parts of the country. The Women's Institute has launched a 'Love Libraries' petition to as part of its campaign to save local libraries from closure.
Ebooks offer a new way to access thousands of new books every year at the same time as sighted readers. This summer, we asked members of the National Library Service focus group to help us with a survey of ebook services from public libraries.
It's a hundred years since the birth of William Golding (19 September 1911 - 19 June 1993). Golding, probably best known for his novel Lord of the Flies, was also a poet, playwright and Nobel Prize for Literature laureate. He was also awarded the Booker Prize for literature in 1980 for his novel Rites of Passage and knighted in 1988.
To promote freedom of expression libraries have got together to celebrate 'banned books' during 24 September - 1 October.
