Braille for schools and projects

Lots of people learn about braille and Louis Braille in school... and we've got lots of information to help you.

Start by reading our What is braille section, and then read how braille was invented. And of course, you can't learn about braille without reading all about Louis Braille. But braille isn't all about the past - don't forget to learn about the future of braille.

You can use the information in this section in school projects or essays. (If you need to give an author name, just put www.rnib.org.uk as the author and the source. You don't need to write to us for permission to use our braille information for your school project.)

Teachers

We've got a Resources for schools page with lots of free, curriculum-friendly downloadable resources for you and your pupils. The page also gives advice for teachers supporting a pupil who uses braille.

Braille alphabet card

The braille alphabet card shows the embossed braille alphabet, punctuation marks and numbers, together with the print translation. You can order one free copy of the English card from our online shop or call 0303 123 9999. If you would like multiple copies of the card there will be a small charge. For details of the Welsh alphabet card, please call 0303 123 9999.
