Online Reference Service

Man using a computer

For many years, we have offered an Online Reference Service free of charge to all our readers. Our aim has been to provide an accessible source of online material, including newspapers, magazines and journals, covering a wide range of subjects. This service has now been discontinued because of the very low number of users and the high cost to the Library of subscribing to these information websites.

More importantly, rapid changes in technology and the widespread availability of online resources means that many blind and partially sighted people are now able to access this kind of information independently. Your local library is a great place to start - all you need is your library card number and you can access newspapers, magazines and reference books from home or work.

Talking Newspapers

National Talking Newspapers and Magazines (NTNM) is part of the RNIB Group and offers more than 230 high street newspaper and magazine titles in audio. A wide range of titles are available on computer disk and by email as well as directly to your computer by streaming or downloading. You can contact NTNM on 01435 86 61 02

If you would like advice about getting hold of accessible reference information, please contact Jessica Morgan, Digital Services Librarian, on 0161 355 2051 or email jessica.morgan@rnib.org.uk
