Six steps library survey

Books in a library

Make a Noise in Libraries Fortnight (MANIL) will run from 11 to 24 June this year and we need your help to take part in a quick survey at your local library.

Six steps

Across the UK, 181 out of 209 library authorities have signed up to undertake six low cost steps to improve what they offer for blind and partially sighted readers. This includes providing local collections of audio and large print books, providing access technology and actively supporting MANIL Fortnight each year. We need your help to monitor how well libraries are meeting their Six Steps pledge. You can do this by visiting your local library or over the phone.

Better libraries

RNIB believes that public library services should be accessible to everyone. Your feedback will give us a better picture of provision across the country and it really does make a difference. Last year, your feedback highlighted the obstacles facing blind and partially sighted people when using online library catalogues and downloading books. We shared the survey results with Overdrive, the main provider of eBook services in public libraries, and they are keen to discuss the issues so that improvements can be made.

Help us make a difference again in 2012. To register your interest, email una.regan@rnib.org.uk or call Una on 0161 355 2079. Or visit our website at rnib.org.uk/manil
