6 October is National Poetry Day, so we thought we'd share a few titles we have in the library.

  • The song of Hiawatha by Henry Wandsworth Longfellow - braille 1v; TB 4855
  • Time's tidings: greeting the twenty-first century, an anthology by Carol Ann Duffy - braille 2v
  • The ice age by Paul Farley - TB 13338
  • Murder in the dark: short fictions and prose poems by Margaret Atwood - TB 7458
But this is only the tip of the iceberg, so if you love poetry give reader services a call for more suggestions, or download this poetry booklist:

If you would like to hear poets reading their own work, visit The Poetry Archive. The Poetry Archive is a treasure-trove of English-language poets reading their own work. Some recordings are historic, and others have been made especially for the Archive. This means it has the widest possible range, from Tennyson at the end of the nineteenth century, through poets such as Allen Ginsberg and Langston Hughes in the middle of the twentieth century, to contemporary poets including Seamus Heaney, Ruth Padel and Kathleen Jamie.

Jo Bell, the Director of National Poetry Day, is one of the judges of our own Creative Writing Competition.
