Spreading the joy of reading

A person listening to a Talking Book

Hundreds of people will be lucky enough to receive a free audio book this week as part of a giveaway by RNIB to mark World Book Night on 23 April.

World Book Night was launched in 2011 to give one million books away to light or non-readers. This year, for the first time, RNIB National Library Service has joined in.

What we're doing

A group of blind and partially sighted volunteers are giving away audio titles in all sorts of different places including train stations, braille classes, social groups, book groups, the library, a book festival and even a 40th birthday party!

In doing this, they are not only sharing a great book with others but they are also helping RNIB promote the importance of accessible reading for people with sight loss.

Research by RNIB shows that there is a severe lack of reading material available to people with sight loss, as just 7 per cent of all books are available in fully accessible formats to blind and partially sighted people.
