This year the Summer Reading Challenge will be an official programme within the Cultural Olympiad London 2012 Festival, the largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Movements.

Author interview - Patrick Ness

Patrick Ness was the 2011 winner of the CILIP Carnegie Medal for his book Monsters of Men, the third and final instalment in his Chaos Walking trilogy. Pupils Sonia and Jess from New College Worcester went on stage at the Carnegie Awards at Bafta to hand Patrick a braille copy of the book.

Carnegie Shadowing

Blind and partially sighted children have again taken part in the Carnegie Medal shadowing scheme this year. RNIB National Library Service and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals: Youth Libraries Group worked together to ensure that the titles were ready in alternative formats at the same time as the shortlist was announced.

BBC Radio 2 - '500 Words' children's writing competition

Young budding writers may be interested to know that BBC Radio 2 in association with 'Hay Fever', the children's programme of the Hay Festival of Literature and Arts are running a children's writing competition.

Meet... Moira Butterfield

Moira Butterfield was just seven years old when she began writing stories. She's since gone on to write many children's books, including a popular series about fairies. Clare Carson met up with her at the Cheltenham book festival where she was surrounded by a gaggle of avid young fairies keen to get some tips about how to turn their imagination into books.
