Cosmic author, in more ways than one, Frank Cottrell Boyce visited the Library in Stockport recently for a Family Day for blind and partially sighted children.
Frank read excerpts from
Cosmic (braille 5v, giant print 2v, TB 16197), a story about a boy called Liam who is very tall for his age. He enters a competition, gets mistaken as a grown up and a dad and ultimately has the chance to go into space.
Frank talked about how he became a writer. He told us anecdotes about school visits and was very amusing. As well as Cosmic, he is also the author of Carnegie medal winner
Millions (braille 2v, giant print 2v, TB 408085), and
Framed (braille 6v, giant print 2v, TB 15835). He told us his next project is to write a sequel to Ian Fleming's
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang… so watch this space for a return of the flying car.
At another event, Meg Rosoff, whose most recent book is
The bride's farewell (available soon in all formats), visited the pupils at New College, Worcester. Her sense of humour and ability to spin a good yarn resulted in an inspiring event. Many pupils in the audience said they were motivated to start writing themselves.
Meg's other books include
How I live now (braille 2v, giant print 1v, TB 14159), Carnegie medal winner
Just in Case (braille 2v, giant print 2v, TB 15129) and
What I was (braille 3v, giant print 1v, TB 15758). For younger children she has written
Meet wild boars (giant print 1v).
