Blind and partially sighted children have again taken part in the Carnegie Medal shadowing scheme this year. RNIB National Library Service and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals: Youth Libraries Group worked together to ensure that the titles were ready in alternative formats at the same time as the shortlist was announced.
The Carnegie Medal is an annual award for outstanding children's literature which is judged by librarians and influenced by the comments given by the children who have read the shortlisted titles through the shadowing process.
This year a record-breaking 53 young NLS members opted to receive the Carnegie titles which were as follows:
-
Prisoner of the inquisition by Theresa Breslin
-
The death-defying Pepper Roux by Geraldine McCaughrean
-
Monsters of men by Patrick Ness
-
Bride's farewell, by Meg Rosoff
-
White crow by Marcus Sedgwick
-
Out of shadows by Jason Wallace
All the above titles are available in contracted braille, giant print and on Daisy audio CD. Please contact the RNIB National Library Service Children's Librarian on 0161 355 2061 or
childrenslibrarian@rnib.org.uk to borrow any of them.
