There are many devices on the market which can be used for reading eBooks. The latest to hit the news headlines is Apple's the new iPad, launched on 16 March.
Make a Noise in Libraries Fortnight (MANIL) will run from 11 to 24 June this year and we need your help to take part in a quick survey at your local library. Across the UK, 181 out of 209 library authorities have signed up to undertake six low cost steps to improve what they offer for blind and partially sighted readers.
We know that some talking book readers have been experiencing difficulties playing content on USB sticks in their PTX1 DAISY players. We have investigated the problem and now have a new firmware release designed to fix it.
For many years, we have offered an Online Reference Service free of charge to all our readers. Our aim has been to provide an accessible source of online material, including newspapers, magazines and journals, covering a wide range of subjects. This service has now been discontinued because of the very low number of users and the high cost to the Library of subscribing to these information websites.
We are pleased to confirm that there will be no annual increase in the subscription fee for the Talking Book Service in 2012-13.
Some of our Talking Book readers have expressed concern about the new CD envelopes we are using to send out Talking Books so we would like to explain the reasons behind this change.
