Bus travel

For many blind and partially sighted people, using local buses is the only way to work, visit friends and family or attend medical appointments.

However, travelling by bus can be challenging, especially when services vary depending on where you live and who operates them.

Here we offer you some practical tips and advice about how to get the most out of bus travel. So whether you have never been on a bus or you have used buses before, you can travel by bus independently and with confidence.

Bus travel explained

Watch our short bus travel videos that will help you to get started or to be a more confident bus traveller. They show some tools which you may find useful when trying to travel by bus.

You can also download "Bus travel explained - a guide to using buses", where we offer some tips about how to plan your bus journey, how to get the right bus and pay for your journey, find a suitable seat and how to make sure you get off at the right stop.

We also have useful information about whether you might be entitled to free or discounted bus passes.
