The broadcasters would really like to hear your feedback on audio description (AD).
This is your opportunity to let the broadcasters know how much AD you watch and the difference it makes to your TV viewing.
It is an excellent opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to influence the future of audio description on television.
What do they want to know?
The idea to be as clear and succint as possible with your feedback so some of the things that we feel you should definitely include in your communicaiton with the broadcasters are:
-
Are you happy with the quality of the AD?
-
Have you any good examples where AD made a huge difference to a programme?
-
Are there any programmes which could have been audio described better?
-
What programmes would you like to see audio described and are there programmes you think perhaps don't really need AD?
If the AD doesn't work properly let them know. Include the following information to help them track down where the problem lies:
-
The date, time and title of the programme
-
Your postcode and
-
If you are watching via Freesat, Freeview, Sky or Virgin
How to feedback
The major broadcasters can be contacted in the following ways:
The broadcasters have expressed how keen they are to hear from users of AD:
"At the BBC we're always keen to hear from people who use our access services, like audio description. We're constantly seeking to improve and your feedback is very valuable to us and will help us to plan our services."
"Channel 4 is really keen to get feedback from viewers who use our audio description service to help us in quality control as well as selection of programmes for description."
Complain to Ofcom
Complaints about non-compliance of broadcasters with their obligation to audio describe programmes can be made to the regulator Ofcom. Ofcom can be contacted for this purpose via the Ofcom website, e-mail adcomplaints@ofcom.org.uk or simply call them on 0300 123 3333 or 020 7981 3040.
We recommend that consumers take their complaints about AD direct to the broadcasters and then subsequently to Ofcom. It is important that broadcasters are kept involved in this process as they really value feedback and it is an opportunity for them to learn about the quality of AD that they broadcast from direct users.
