Celebration of industry success: accessibility of current and upcoming television technology

12 April 2012

RNIB and Intellect in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) organised an event earlier this month to celebrate the great achievements and innovations in advancing access to Digital TV services and products for people with sight problems and hearing difficulties.

At the event, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries in the UK, Ed Vaizey urged the industry to continue to innovate solutions that would enhance the experience of using various media services and products for people with disabilities.

Addressing representatives from the broadcasting and technology industry along with charities campaigning for equal access to media content he said "It was morally right to make products that people with different disabilities could use, and inclusion was important".

This event gave stakeholders a chance to discuss a vision for building expertise.

Amongst other broadcasters and technology companies that attended this event were Harvard plc, TVonics, Panasonic, Ocean Blue, BBC, BskyB, Channel 4, and ITV.

Highlights from this event are now availble to watch on RNIB Youtube Channel.
