VILD services for users and carers

VILD provide the following services:

Training in all aspects of visual impairment and learning disability for:

  • social care professionals
  • health professionals
  • support staff
  • carers.

Functional Vision Assessments to help find potential sight difficulties through observation and supporting the person for the sight test. We provide an easy to understand report outlining the effects of any vision difficulties. We also provide practical information to aid daily living, communication and mobility.

Environmental Assessments which look at the person's surroundings with their sight problems in mind, and recommend changes and modifications to improve quality of life.

Specialist Rehabilitation Assessment to support the person with a Learning Disability with the practical tasks that become difficult as a result of being blind or partially sighted.

Working in partnership with local authorities and health boards to provide Project Assessment Workers to support the vision assessment process.

Our experienced team work with a range of care services for people who have a learning disability in health and social care. We support commissioners and providers of services to take into account the high numbers of sight problems found in people who have a learning disability.

Our modes of service are provided as examples but are not the only way in which we might work with others in the future. We pride ourselves on our flexibility in working with partner organisations and would be happy to consider any other models to suit your needs.
