If you are not awarded Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or are unhappy with the rates you have been awarded, you can ask the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to look at their decision again. The DWP Decision Maker will contact you to discuss the reasons for their decision and answer any questions you (or someone acting on your behalf) may have. This is called "mandatory reconsideration".
If, after DWP have reconsidered their decision, you are still unhappy with the outcome and wish to dispute it, you can then lodge an appeal with HM Courts & Tribunal Service.
Our Legal Rights Service can provide legal advice and, where possible, representation on appeals to the Tribunal for blind and partially sighted people. Contact our Helpline on 0303 123 9999 or email helpline@rnib.org.uk.
