Avoid copycat websites that charge for free services

Are you planning to visit the United States in the near future? Or travelling to Europe, and need to renew your European Health Insurance Card? If so, and you are looking to obtain documents online, be on your guard, says Moneysaving Expert.

Official-looking websites can often tempt consumers to pay out large sums of money for services that government departments offer free. Tax refunds, travel documents, and personal records are all areas where 'copycat' websites operate, often looking very much like the official ones.

Consumer Focus, the consumer champion, has begun an investigation and advises people to do their research before parting with any money. They suggest that you should always check the official website, or consult sources of free information, such as a local Citizens Advice Bureau.
