There are various ways in which you can help blind and partially sighted people to get around our outdoor spaces and buildings.
Tactile maps are useful for explaining the layout of a building or maybe a country park. They can also give an indication of complexity or scale. But we do recommend some instructions are provided with the map, ideally in written form (braille or audio) supplied with the maps.
Handheld maps are usually portable so the user can choose to use them when they are out and about. Being portable also makes them easier to store for the company supplying them.
RNIB has many years experience in providing maps for areas as complex as the London Underground and CenterParcs. These maps can be helpful for shopping centres to help you find the key stores, coffee shops and toilets.
We also work on large print maps for customers with useful sight. These can even replace your standard maps and be offered to all customers.
So if you have a large area, indoors or out, and think your customers would benefit from handheld maps then call 01733 37 53 70 or email
businesslink@rnib.org.uk today to discuss how we can work together.
