In late 2011, the UK Association for Accessible Formats voted to adopt the Unified English Braille Code (UEB), and RNIB has agreed to implement UEB in all its braille materials.
UEB is a revised braille code which was developed to unify all the different technical and literary braille codes in use in the UK. It also seeks to create a single braille code for all the English speaking people around the world.
One of the aims of adopting the unified code was to make learning braille easier. For example, UEB uses a simpler way of writing numbers, which may have an effect on children learning maths and science.
