Guide Dogs looks to future technology

Guide Dogs has launched a new video about how future technology could help people who are blind and partially sighted and their families get around.

The video, produced in partnership with Microsoft, features a visually impaired father who is able to plan and lead a family day out using gadgets such as a smart phones, tablet computers and accessibility apps that have been developed for them. It shows him navigating his way round a railway station, enjoying exhibits in a museum and buying presents for his wife, with his father and young son in tow.

The technology is not available as yet, however, Guide Dogs Chief Executive, Richard Leaman, said: "We are determined to make some, if not all, of what we show a reality. We hope the video will inspire technology companies, transport providers, policy makers, and those responsible for the built environment to come together to make the ideas and concepts shown in the video a reality."

Guide Dogs is inviting people who are interested to get involved by emailing
