New DCMS web accessibility website

A new website, the eAccessibility Forum www.discuss.culture.gov.uk/eaccessibility, has been launched by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The site aims to open up discussions on how websites and online services can be made more accessible to people with disabilities. People with disabilities including sight loss are invited to visit the forum and contribute their ideas and experiences.

The site's aims include identifying the support and funding needed to make technology more accessible to disabled people, and how laws can be improved to ensure websites and content can be accessed equally by everyone.

The Minister for Culture, Media and Sport, Ed Vaizey said: "This new website will allow businesses involved in the Forum and Government to hear directly from users about the problems they have using the internet. I urge people to visit the site and tell us what we can do to make the internet more accessible for them."
  • Over to you: common issues for online accessibility include non-descriptive links such as "click here" or "more info", insufficiently highlighted links and blank headings. What issues do you and the young people you support come across when trying to use websites?
