Legal battle launched over website accessibility

RNIB has launched legal action against low-cost airline bmibaby, over its failure to provide an accessible website for blind and partially sighted users.

Concerns were first raised in 2010 by frustrated customers, who were unable to book the cheapest offers which were only available online. Bmibaby received advice and recommendations, but RNIB claims these were not acted upon.

Legal proceedings have now been issued as the website remains inaccessible to people who cannot use a mouse.

Blind and partially sighted customers deserve to have access to the best online prices, argues RNIB campaigns officer Hugh Huddy.

"Why should those with sight loss risk missing out on a web-only deal or be forced to ring a call centre simply because companies are failing to take accessibility standards seriously?" he asks.
