New braille typing app

A new app that allows braille users to type braille using the touch screen of their iPad (or other tablet) has been developed by a student in the US.

It was while taking part in the "Army High Performance Computing Research Center's summer course" held at Stanford University, that Adam Duran developed the application along with his mentors.

The new programme converts the touch screen into a braille keypad. The braille keys group themselves under the user's fingertips, so no tactile display is needed.

The app is still being developed. It is intended to work with a range of tablet computers, and could offer a much cheaper and more flexible alternative to the braille note takers currently available.
