A review is being carried out of transport provision for children with special educational needs (SEN) in Northamptonshire.
The review is taking place as part of the council's transport budget cuts. School transport for children with SEN was highlighted as a potential area for saving.
The council has given the go-ahead for a consultation with schools and families of those students receiving home to school transport, a council spokesperson confirmed.
The council highlighted that many students may be living within walking distance of the school and would be able to walk accompanied. Any changes to school transport are unlikely to take effect before September 2013.
