Post-compulsory education and training (PCET)

This section provides information to help you ensure blind and partially sighted students get fair treatment in post compulsory education and training (PCET). The majority of blind and partially sighted pupils are in mainstream schools (Morris M and Smith P 2008) and most blind and partially sighted students prefer to continue their education with mainstream learning providers.

  • If you're developing or reviewing your admissions procedures, you'll need to make sure they are fair to all students, including those with disabilities. Here are some essentials to remember.
  • We support blind and partially sighted learners at special centres, based in colleges around the UK - find out about our college partnerships.
  • You can offer your learners an opportunity to participate in a detailed and comprehensive assessment of his or her learning and study needs following initial advice and guidance. We show you how.
  • Our campaign work includes improving access to lifelong learning. Find out what we are saying in our consultation responses to Government.
  • RNIB offers a national programme of training events to support the development needs of professionals working with individuals who are blind or partially sighted. These include exciting developments for teachers and learning support practitioners working with learners who are blind and partially sighted.
