Complex needs

This section is for teaching professionals who work with children who have a visual impairment and additional learning, physical or sensory needs.

We look at a wide variety of topics that arise in the education and care of children in special school settings, such as assessment, communication, movement and mobility and classroom activities. You can also find information about the range of theraputic interventions that can be made for children with complex needs and understand the roles of different professional colleagues.

Also see our section on supporting children in mainstream education.

VITAL: a network of learning professionals

VITAL (Visual Impairment Touches All Learning) is a network of professionals who meet regionally for peer support and professional development.

Much of the information in this Complex Needs section has been compiled by members or affiliates of VITAL. Find out about regional VITAL focus groups, the national steering group and VITAL conferences.

Visual Impairment and Autism Project
