Our schools and college
RNIB schools and college offer services to children and young people who are blind or partially sighted with multiple disabilities and complex needs. This includes children and young people with:
-
additional sensory impairment (deafblindness)
-
healthcare needs, such as epilepsy
-
physical disabilities
-
communication difficulties
-
social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
-
autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
Within our schools and college, our staff have a wealth of expertise within the fields of visual impairment and complex needs. They can offer training, advice and support to colleagues and professionals working in mainstream and special schools across the country.
Our education staff, care and therapies team provide specialist services drawn from their own professional expertise, knowledge of the sector and the children with whom they work to deliver excellent services to the children they support.
These Effective Practice webpages allow us to capture and share our staff's work within this field.
They include publications written by RNIB staff, School and staff awards and accolades, our young peoples work within the community and how we value our learner's opinions in our 'Learner Voice' pages as well as offering ideas of how you can engage learners in activities. We highlight the support our schools offer to families in our 'supporting families' section.
We look at specialist projects and research underway in our establishment schools and college and how you and your school or college could be involved in this. We highlight ideas around how partnership working with colleges, businesses and organisations in your local community can benefit your school and the community in which the young people we support, live.
