New Year Honours list recognises services to blind people

Paralympians and people who provide services for blind and partially sighted people have been included in the recent New Year Honours list.

MBEs were awarded to blind and partially sighted Paralympians including Craig MacLean, for services to cycling, and to gold-medal winning cyclist Neil Fachie. Naomi Riches and James Roe, who were both members of the gold medal rowing team, also received MBEs.

Recipients of the Medal of the Order of the British Empire include Peter England, head of Powys Talking Newspapers for services to the community in Welshpool, Powys and John and Jill Huckleby who run the Peterborough Talking Newspaper.

The New Year Honours list also saw an OBE awarded to Margaret Cowie for charitable services to blind and sight impaired people in Glasgow.
