How X-PIL works
X-PIL is an automated service that your customers can access for free to listen to medicine PILs over the phone, or to order a PIL in an accessible format: large print, audio CD or braille.
Customers simply call the RNIB Medicine Leaflet Line on 0800 198 5000, quote the product licence number of their medicine, and select a format.
The X-PIL service is a membership service, charged on a 12-monthly basis and available in three options.
X-PIL options and costs
Options 1 and 2 are for Datapharm members only. Option 3 is available for any company.
The option you choose also depends on what proportion of your PILs you can commit to the service at the outset - Option 1 is suitable only if you can commit all your PILs at once.
With all three options, you must approve the HTML rendition of the PIL and ensure that it's the latest version approved by the regulatory authority .
Option 1 - for Datapharm members who can sign up all their PILS to the X-PIL service

Option 3 - for non-Datapharm members

covers unlimited requests for your chosen PILs in all three alternative formats

cost: £720 plus VAT for two PILs for 12 months (to amend a chosen PIL or add a new PIL costs £360 plus VAT).
Customers need to quote the product licence number when they call, so make sure it and the X-PIL phone number are printed in a large font size, ideally in a special, easy-to-read section.
Republic of Ireland
Our service for the Republic of Ireland is similar to Option 3 for UK membership.
