Future Sight Loss UK 1 and Future Sight Loss UK 2

Failure to invest in early detection and treatment of eye conditions results in the need for increased long term support for people once they have lost their sight. It also needlessly leaves people to cope with the emotional impact of losing their sight, where it could have been prevented. Commissioned in 2009, Future Sight Loss explores the economic impact of sight loss in the UK. It looks at the prevalence of partial sight and blindness and estimates the current and future costs to our health and social care system. It also explains how investing in the promotion of eye care services can lead to significant economic gains.
