Exciting update on RNIB hosted EBU pharma-braille website
For the past five years, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has supported the European Blind Union (EBU) with the design and provision of a subscription-based pharmaceutical braille code look-up website hosted on RNIB servers.
This website was designed and hosted by RNIB on behalf of EBU to enable pharmaceutical packaging designers and EBU member countries to have access to braille code information following the introduction of EU Council Directive 2004/27/EC - Article 56(a).
From 19 July 2012, RNIB will no longer be providing a website but instead will share our information with Steel Design (visit their site at pharmabraille.com) based in Scotland to get guidance out to the pharmaceutical sector.
This is great news as it enables RNIB to make best use of charitable resources. And it's easier for pharmaceutical packaging designers to find the information they need to apply braille to medical packaging in a one-stop-shop.
RNIB will also provide some assistance to Steel Design to help them to achieve SurfRight website accessibility status for pharmabraille.com.
Through Pharmabraille.com, we will continue to provide guidance for pharmaceutical packaging professionals, news about EBU standards and the recommended EBU braille code as well as individual European country codes. RNIB and EBU will also help Steel Design by providing braille expertise and links with European sight loss organisations.
