Post 16 education (PCET)

RNIB offers a national programme of training events to support the development needs of professionals working with individuals who are blind or partially sighted.

News

Exciting developments for teachers and learning support practitioners working with learners who are blind and partially sighted.
The National Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) team is developing specialist teaching and learning support practitioner courses. These will enable people who are blind or partially sighted to access education and be appropriately supported through education and training.
The courses will share good practice and set the standard for this specialist area. The aim is to remove the barriers that people who are blind or partially sighted encounter when accessing education and training in the lifelong learning sector.
This development is following the National Occupational Standards of Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK). We are in advanced talks regarding accreditation to ensure that the training has added value for learners and has a real impact on the lives of blind and partially sighted people.
We are currently in the process of delivering pilot courses to complete this development work. The courses will run as short continuing professional development (CPD) units that will allow learners to build up to a full qualification. However, this is not finalised and will rely on the outcome of the development work regarding accreditation. At this stage we have foundation/awareness, learning support practitioner and teaching short courses. We are currently developing courses regarding assessment and guiding and mobility.
