Many companies and designers have worked with RNIB over the years and used our advice to improve their product design. We can carry out ergnomic assessments with real end-users or train your staff to apply the design principles themselves.
We've worked on designs as diverse as showers, talking calculators, building fittings, mobile phones and payment systems. Anything from mainstream public facing kiosks to the next generation wayfinding and reading devices!
Our teams work from an inclusive design approach but can also deliver workshops specifically designed to raise your awareness of the design needs of blind and partially sighted users.
Call 01733 375345 or email busdev@rnib.org.uk to tell us about yourselves and what you'd like us to help with. We'll work with you to plan the right approach for you.
What is Inclusive Design?
Inclusive product design involves designing mainstream products and services in such a way that as many people as possible can use them easily - whatever their age and ability.
This does not mean that you are expected to design every product to be usable by everyone. There will always be some people who need specialist equipment. But when inclusive design principles are adopted, the number of people requiring specialist and expensive alternative equipment will be reduced.
We've been told about inclusive designs that have over-achieved their business plans, beaten competitor products and sold more units. So with our ageing population, the business case is already proven. What are you waiting for?
How RNIB can help you
Apart from delivering product design training, we also have a product design assessment service leading to an RNIB Reference for products. This is to help mainstream products gain recognition for their good design features. You can find out more on our RNIB Reference process page.
