Vocational Training
Training in audio description skills for theatre is provided by the Audio Description Association (ADA) and Audio Description Association Scotland (ADAS). The course is accredited by the Open College Network at Level 3.
ADA also offers a course for TV and film describers accredited by the Open College Network at Level 3. Both courses lead to the Certificate in Audio Description Skills which is the nationally recognised qualification for
describers in the UK.
Post graduate training
Two post graduate courses are available in the UK.
The University of Surrey offers a MA in Monolingual Subtitling and Audio description. The programme aims to provide thorough training for graduates wishing to work in monolingual subtitling and in audio description of TV programmes, films and live theatre productions.
Roehampton University offers a MA in Audiovisual Translation. The course aims to equip students with the necessary skills to enter the professional market as well as with the necessary knowledge to pursue further research in this field and includes modules on:

Providers of audio description
RNIB has produced a list of audio description providers. These organisations employ audio describers directly. RNIB does not have any work opportunities for audio describers.
