Multimedia

It is a common perception that multimedia is not accessible. However, multimedia is becoming more and more widely used on websites, and good use of audio and visual content can mean that more users are included.

  • Audio and video - Both audio and video files can act as an excellent means of conveying information as long as alternatives are provided, such as transcripts to audio or descriptions of video.
  • Flash - Flash MX now has some features that have improved its accessibility.
  • PDFs - Adobe has done much work towards making PDF files accessible. As with other formats such as HTML and Flash, it is the designer's responsibility to make content accessible.
