Health professionals are being urged to support a campaign aimed at providing essential information for blind and partially sighted people.
Action for Blind People has produced a series of useful postcards and posters that detail support and useful tips for people with sight loss.
The move follows a survey by Action that showed nearly 90 per cent of visually impaired people - who responded to their poll - believed they would have benefited from information from an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) before being fully diagnosed as losing their sight.
The information provides handy tips in different areas; including talking gadgets for the kitchen, community travel support and talking cash machines.
Colin Whitbourn, Action’s Director of Partnerships, said: “We’re currently liaising with opticians, pharmacies and GPs in the South West, and exploring opportunities in the Midlands. If they agree to hand-out our lifestyle postcards, and display our posters in waiting rooms, they will offer vital reassurance and information for patients at a difficult time.”
Opticians, pharmacies and GPs wanting to order posters and postcards should contact Comms@actionforblindpeople.org.uk or phone 020 7635 4921.
