Talking Book catalogue
The Talking Book catalogue gives you access to over 20,000 audio books for loan.
The main sections of the catalogue are:
- Search screen - the first page of the catalogue where you can enter your search words.
- Search results - the list of titles that match your search. You can add books to your request list from this page.
- Selection list - you can create and send a selection list to the Talking Book Service. You can organise your selection list from this page.
How to do a search
On the search screen you can add as much or as little information as you like: author's surname or first name, title, category, date added to library, order number, reader. You can also set the number of results displayed per page.
To search for a particular book genre or category.
Choose from the dropdown list either: adult fiction, adult non-fiction, books for children or young adults. You can then further refine your selection by clicking on 'more' and then choosing from the categories in the new dropdown list. For adult fiction the categories include: romance, westerns, humourous fiction, horror,satire and many more.
When you have entered your search words click 'find books now' to display your search results.
Browsing your search results
Your search results are displayed as a list including details of: title, author, synopsis, category, notes, reader, duration, date added, order number and series.
Creating and sending your selection list
To add a book to your selection list, choose the book you want from your search results and click on the title. You will be taken to your selection list where you can either return to your search results, start a new search or send the list.
You can return to your selection list at any time by returning to the search screen and clicking the link at the bottom of the page.
You will need to enter the following details: surname, first name, postcode, daytime telephone number, email. You can also add a comment if you wish. Once you have entered your details, click 'send'.
It is important to note that your selection list will not be saved once you close the Talking Book Catalogue.
