• Scan and read - add a scanner to your computer and Guide will read your letters, bank statements, newspaper, magazine or any printed document back to you
• Email - send, receive, edit, forward, save and print emails using a simple and easy to understand interface. Emails will be downloaded automatically and displayed in a list where you can choose which ones to read either in large print or listen to them using synthetic speech
• Word processing - write, edit, save, retrieve, spell check and format your documents and letters. You can save your documents and letters into different formats including Microsoft Word, Rich text, plain text, audio (MP3) or print a hard copy if you have a printer
• Surf the web - Guide has a simple and easy to use web browser to help you navigate round the world wide web. Whether you want to catch up on today's news, do some shopping or just browse Guide will make it simple and easy. Move around the page using the arrow keys or jump around the page to the information you want by jumping to the next heading or link
• Typing tutor and keyboard practice - there is a key describer mode to help you understand the layout of the keyboard by echoing your key presses. Guide also has a built-in typing tutor which helps you improve your typing skills and make using a keyboard easier and faster.

• Address Book - you can store postal addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses for all your friends, family and other contacts in the address book. Easily search the address book to send emails, letters or make a phone call. You can even print addresses directly onto envelopes.
• Play Audio CD or MP3 - insert a music CD into you computer and Guide will automatically download the CD title, artist name and track listing of the CD. You have all the usual playback controls and you can leave the CD playing while you use other areas of Guide such as writing a letter or surfing the internet. Please note: the Dolphin Guide value netbook package cannot play CD's as it does not have a CD drive.
• Calendar - keep track of your appointments and events and set reminders to alert you before you miss one.
• Internet radio and podcasts - radio stations from the UK and around the world broadcast live on the internet and with Guide you can access them quickly and easily. Guide also includes the BBC listen again service so if you miss your favourite BBC radio programme you can log on within seven days and catch up at the touch of a button.
• My Finances - a simple spreadsheet program to help you manage your income and expenditure.
• Instant Messenger - send and receive messages to your friends and family instantly. You will see a list of your friends who are currently online and you simply type a message and it will be instantly displayed on your friends computer.
• Games - the audio based games are included; Hangman, Anagrams and Kountdown.
• Skype telephone calls - Guide enables you to make free calls over the internet using Skype. Skype is a well known internet call system where you can use your computer's microphone, speakers and internet connection to make calls to other people using Skype for free.
• Voice Memos - use your computer's microphone to record memos
