Banished from the Christian Community at Tadmor, Illinois after a scandalous liaison, Amelius Goldenheart is sent to England with a letter of introduction to John Farnaby of the City of London. Upon arrival he finds his reception somewhat unwelcoming, while Farnaby tolerates him, his wife seeks answers from every visitor about the disppearance of her child, while Regina, their niece who lives with them is kept away from him. Yet after a glimpse of Regina he finds himself captivated and longs to further his relationship with her.
