About us
Our centre in Leeds covers Yorkshire, Humberside and the North East. It provides services to blind and partially sighted children and adults, parents, carers and the professionals who work with them. It also provides services for students and employers.
Our services
Education
Guidance, information and consultancy.
- Training courses and conferences covering best practice, specialist subjects, curriculum and physical access to learning.
- Advice and support to schools, Further Education and Higher Education establishments in supporting blind and partially sighted students.
- Information, advice and support to blind and partially sighted individuals, their parents, carers and professionals working with them.
- Local events and activities for blind and partially sighted children and their families (eg Christmas trip to a local audio-described pantomime).
Employment
- Career and employment advice and job-seeking support.
Audits of policies and practices for organisations.
- Advice and training for employers on recruitment and retention of blind and partially sighted staff.
- Vocational guidance assessments for job seekers.
Technology
- Assessments for students, job-seekers and employees about specialist technology equipment.
- Information and advice about access technology, hardware and software.
- Training courses and conferences on a range of subjects relating to access technology.
- Advice about accessible website design .
Training and consultancy
Many of our education courses are available in the Yorkshire, Humber and North East region. They help professionals support the learning and development of children and adults with sight problems.
We are also hosting several health and social care training events in 2008 to help professionals in this sector better support people who are blind or partially sighted.
Additional services
- RNIB's Expert Witness Service Lead Officer gives advice about how RNIB can assist solicitors and their clients in legal cases involving sight loss
- Eye Clinic Liaison Officers based in local hospitals provide information about support, benefits and services available to people with sight problems.
We can also put you in touch with the wide range of RNIB national services including music, mobility, the educational curriculum, braille, books, publications, technology, benefits, hotels, our popular Talking Book Service as well as information and publications on a wide range of other subjects.
