Family Services - Parents' Place

Summary: About RNIB Family Services. We organise events and offer support to families around the UK.

What we do

We support children and families affected by sight loss. We are here for you, whether you are a parent with a sight problem, or your child is blind or partially sighted.

Events and activities

All our events are listed on the events board, so come and join us!

Our activities include days out for the whole family, evenings out and regular support groups. We also run residential activities, including vacation schemes and family weekends, and clubs run on a regular basis.

We also use volunteers to help in our local support to children and families.

How we support you

  • We organise events, clubs and support groups
  • We give information and advice to parents and carers (eg on schools, health or financial support)
  • We support professionals who work with children and families.

We improve access to activities

  • If your child is interested in sport and clubs run by mainstream providers, we can work with the provider to make the activities more accessible and inclusive.
  • For the leisure industry, we offer training and consultancy on accessibility and inclusion for children.

Rachael Anne's story - Throughout her childhood, Rachael Anne moved house several times. It wasn't always easy to adjust to new schools and new places, but that didn't stop her developing talents in acting and music. She is now a trainee Family Services Officer at RNIB Birmingham.
