Home Visiting Service
Summary: Information about RNIB's Home Visiting Service and how you can help by becoming a volunteer
Volunteers' enrich and enlarge RNIB, are an integral part of RNIB and its work and are best able to provide the on-going support that blind and partially sighted people request.

Our Home Visiting volunteers provide RNIB customers with help and support in many ways. The Volunteer Development Team (VDT) in Peterborough co-ordinate volunteer support for RNIB customers who need assistance with the following:
- Information Technology (IT) Support - Volunteers must have the knowledge and expertise to set up a variety of IT hardware systems, to diagnose and resolve computer faults, load software and sort out potential difficulties
- Home Technology (HT) Support - Volunteers will support customers in their home with technical devices such as DVD players, set top boxes, mobile telephones etc
- Talking Book Home Support - Volunteers make a difference by assisting customers to choose books and to maintain their Talking Book equipment.
Each of these volunteering roles are subject to a CRB check.
Our volunteers are from all backgrounds and are of all ages and bring experience, enthusiasm and expertise to their role in order to help RNIB customers. They are willing to travel and get involved in their local community which also helps against the potential isolation of blind and partially sighted people.
The Home Visiting Volunteering roles are on an ad-hoc basis so we will contact you to check your availability when a customer in your area needs you. Whatever time you can give to help is much appreciated.
The Volunteer Development Team will offer you training which will include Visual Awareness and Customer Services Training. You will also receive all out of pocket expenses including expenses to attend training.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for RNIB please call our Volunteering Support Team on 0845 60 30 575 or contact volunteering@rnib.org.uk for further information or to request an application pack.
