Team RNIB BUPA Great North Run

The BUPA Great North Run 2009 is being held on Sunday 20th September, between 9am and 5pm. 50,000 people take part in this marathon on the day and RNIB have a team of over 150.

The BUPA Great North Run is the world's biggest half marathon and one of the most popular events of the running season. The atmosphere on race day is spectacular; cheering on not only our runners but all others is an inspiration!

Home based

  • Volunteer Co-ordinator: You will be willing to travel and make a positive difference for people by performance managing a Fundraising Volunteer team. Opportunities available across the region.
  • Campaign Buddy: You will be assisting blind and partially sighted Campaign Coordinators in carrying out their role. Opportunities available in the Keighley area in West Yorkshire.
  • Business Development Trainer/Support Volunteers from commercial organisations or with commercial experience could provide invaluable help in supporting RNIB's Access Consultancy Services unit, in promoting and marketing its services to commercial organisations. Some travel will be required.

Out and about

  • Home Technology Support: Working for the Volunteer Development Team you will be assisting clients in their homes with modern technology equipment. Opportunities available across the region.
  • IT Home Visitor: Working for the Volunteer Development Team you will be assisting clients in their homes with IT problems. Opportunities available across the region.
  • Public Speaker: Within the Fundraising team you will deliver talks to a variety of audiences and different age groups in the community to generate awareness of RNIB. Opportunities available across the region.
  • Sooty Box Collector: Fundraising for the RNIB by collecting money from Sooty boxes and money spinners which are placed in sites within the community. Opportunities available across the region.
  • Store Collector: Fundraising for the RNIB by Collecting, counting, receipting and banking proceeds from store collections within the community. Opportunities available across the region.
  • Talking Book Home Support: Working for the Volunteer Development Team you will be assisting clients in their homes with Talking book players. Opportunities available in Durham County.
  • Team RNIB BUPA Great North Run Assistant: Cheerers and Escorters are needed on Sunday 20th September at various cheering points, to cheer on our RNIB runners and escort them from the finishing line to the post race reception.

Opportunities with Action for Blind People

RNIB and Action for Blind People have now joined forces to share resources, skills and expertise to engage and reach more blind and partially sighted people providing even better services.

This has resulted in more regional volunteering roles becoming available through Action for Blind People.
