Information is power by RNIB

Cover of How the health services can empower blind and partially sighted people leaflet in PDF format

RNIB's new series of leaflets called "Information is power" shows how society can empower blind and partially sighted people and identify priorities for action. If you work in health services, local government, schools or television or want to improve information available in the high street, or public libraries these leaflets are essential reading. Inaccessible information massively restricts the quality of life of blind and partially sighted people. All too often, relatively small adjustments can mean the difference between inclusion and exclusion. Make sure that your organisation can provide information in accessible formats - large print, audio, braille and that your website can be used by people with sight loss and encourage your clients to demand information from others that they can read. Download all our free six leaflets, available in either PDF or Word, from our Campaign pages.

In the key of genius - the extraordinary life of Derek Paravicini by Ockelford, A

Cover of In the key of genius

The extraordinary story of the musical genius Derek Paravicini, born blind with severe learning difficulties and autism, by the music psychologist who has acted as his mentor for the last twenty years. In the key of genius tells the story of one of the most remarkable people you are ever likely to encounter. Derek needs round-the-clock care but he is a musical prodigy whose piano-playing has thrilled audiences at venues from Ronnie Scott's to Las Vegas, the Barbican to Buckingham Palace. When Adam Ockelford, now Director of Rushton School and Children's Home, RNIB, encountered Derek aged 5, he was already playing a wide range of pieces in his own imitable style on the piano. A compelling and moving account of their music relationship, and a fascinating testament to the young man who still can't tell his right hand from his left yet amazes all who hear him play.
