Children and family events

RNIB support

  • Family Services Officers - get in touch with the Family Services Officer in your region in the first instance to be referred to someone who can help.
  • Parents' Place for online information, community and support.

Services at RNIB schools

  • RNIB Sunshine House School Northwood - for day and flexible residential education for children with sight loss and complex needs 2 - 11 years. The school also has family services on an outreach basis for children with complex needs.
  • RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home, - provides flexible 52 week residence and education near Coventry for children and young people with visual impairment and complex needs 5 - 19 years.
  • Brookfields School - RNIB's partnership special school, near Reading and provides day education provision for pupils aged 2 - 19 years with sight loss and additional needs.

  • Consultancy and advice for establishments and services making provision for children and young people with sight loss and complex needs.
  • Court expert witness service - support for schools and settings undertaking self-evaluation of their provision for children and young people having sight problems and complex needs.

Gemma's story - while at university Gemma volunteered as an events assistant in a charity. Being partially sighted, she faced some challenges working in a paper-based office. "The positive response to me asserting my needs has helped me feel more confident about the future."
