RNIB at the Hampton Court Flower Show

Summary: RNIB and Thrive have jointly produced a Talking Book entitled "Keeping the Garden Gate Open".

RNIB's stand at the Hampton Court Flower ShowSet in Hampton Court's beautiful parkland, the Charity Gala Preview was an evening of champagne, entertainment and the very best in horticulture. On 7 July 2008, up to 5,000 guests spent a memorable evening by the Long Water, enjoying the Gardens and Floral Displays of the world's largest annual flower show.

The proceeds from the Charity Gala Preview are being shared with RNIB and Thrive who have jointly produced a Talking Book entitled "Keeping the Garden Gate Open". This contains inspirational stories from people who continue gardening despite sight loss.

Despite the rain, 100 valiant volunteers turned out on the evening to sell raffle tickets and help with picnic hampers and distribution of brochures.

RNIB and Thrive also had a stand at the Flower Show from 8-13 July to raise awareness of both charities and launch the Talking Book.

Jill's story - Jill lost her sight 12 years ago at the age of 19. “The experience left me feeling isolated. I often felt like my life was pointless." Now, as a presenter on Insight Radio, she uses her experiences to help others. “My prayer is that what we do helps those who are going through sight loss. Even the tiniest piece of information can make a huge difference. If my show can help do that, then my journey has not been in vain.” Jill's full story
